Visiting with Legislators

Visiting with legislators is the most important part of Family Advocacy Day.  It's really important for us to share with our legislators the importance of children's hospitals and pediatric specialists.

Here are some photos from our visits with our Ohio legislators.

Congressman Jim Jordan visits Dayton Children's

At Dayton Children's we know how important it is to share with our legislators some of our amazing successes, as well as some of the challenges we face as the region's children's hospital.  Today, Congressman Jim Jordan visited Dayton Children's to learn more about our newly launched clinical information system, our many iniatives and awards for patient safety and our unique residency program that we conduct in partnership with Wright Patterson Air Force Base. We also shared some of our concerns about health care reform and the importance of appropriate Medicaid reimbursement to ensure access to health care for children. Thank you Congressman Jordan for visiting us today!

Please Urge Congress to Make Health Reform Work for Children!

Take just take three minutes to help make sure kids get the care they need at the right time and in the right place.

Congress is currently focused on reforming our country’s health care system – and it’s up to us to make sure that health care reform takes care of children.

Over the next several weeks, the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate will work to pass their health care reform bills through their respective chambers. We need your help to urge them to ensure that health coverage translates into access to care for our nation’s children.

We have a very short window of time to influence the content of the proposed legislation. Please take just a few minutes to go to http://capwiz.com/childrensdayton/home/ to write your members of Congress. Under the “Action Alert” box you will be asked to type in your home ZIP code and click “Go”.

We encourage you to personalize your message – describe why it’s important to you that the children in our community have access to the right care in the right place at the right time.

Thank you for taking time to speak up for our hospital and the children we serve.

Meet Justice Thomas

Justice Thomas, 13, has suffered from hematemesis – an illness that causes her to throw up blood – since she was born, but her life has been drastically improved through her experiences and treatments provided by her local children’s hospital, The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.

Justice Thomas and her family will travel to Washington, D.C. on June 18 and June 19 to speak with federal lawmakers about an issue of vital importance to them – the fate of children’s health care and the essential role that children’s hospitals play in the community.

The Thomas family will join patients and families from children’s hospitals across the country to advocate on behalf of their hospitals as part of the fourth annual National Association of Children’s Hospitals Family Advocacy Day.

Follow Justice and her family as they make this very important journey.
